This economy has everyone in a tailspin. We are all looking for ways to dramatically decrease the amount of money that we are spending and cut corners in a way that will allow us to live a more comfortable life. But when times are tough sacrifices must be made in a variety of ways. For many people those sacrifices have centered on their vehicles. With the price of gas being what it is, there are few among us who can afford the weekly fill ups that would allow us to get to and from our offices. For some people the way in which to counteract that is through ride sharing – driving to and from work with co-workers that live within close proximity. For others, handling the economy may even mean the elimination of the commute altogether – working from home to pay the bills and not sacrificing such a large percentage of it to the gas stations.
This rearrangement of our lifestyle has even extended to the way in which we are going about earning a college degree. For those who may have been traveling to and from a college campus in pursuit of a business degree, the price of gas (not to mention the overburdened schedule of any adult these days) may have proved too much and they are considering alternative methods of education. In this respect, an online business degree allows us to pursue those educational goals that we have set forth and still keep the cash in our pocket that would have normally have been given up to the gods of the gas tank.
Through an online business degree program students can circumvent the typical obstacles that usually stop people from ultimately earning their degree – the commute time, their schedules, the money, etc. An online business degree requires nothing more than a computer, an Internet connection, and the desire to earn a degree.

The Internet has allowed us to go about our business from anywhere in the world. This means that no matter where we are or whatever activity we may be engaged in at the time, we are still able to communicate, work, shop, pay bills, and so forth. Education has also been completely transformed through the Internet. Now, instead of traveling to a campus and attending a physical class, students are able to “attend” classes online through the pursuit of an online business degree or other online degree program.
In fact, most reputable colleges and universities offer an online business degree program in order to keep pace with what the modern student body expects. Since most of us are online on a day to day basis we have come to expect a certain level of service from the companies with which we work – mainly that they will offer an online option. And for those of us who are considered “non-traditional” students – older students who are juggling a full time career and family and do not have the time to devote to travel to campus and sitting in traditional classes – online business degree programs have opened many new options.
For those who are engaged in an online business degree program, even a move does not have to stop us from continuing on our path in education. An online business degree program allows us to attend classes no matter where we happen to be in the world; and if we are currently moving from one place to another, we are still able to fully engage in the online business degree process; all we need, of course, is a computer and an Internet connection.
Additionally, an online business degree program allows us to attend classes with a college or university no matter how far away we happen to be from the physical location of that college or university.

Teaching is a wonderful professional – the answer of a calling for those who truly love to work with children of all different ages and impart particular information in the classroom. Teachers come in all forms – they are male and female, of all different ages, and from all walks of life. There are those who may get their teaching degree early on and discover that the job market is such that they are not able to find any full time positions. In such cases, many teachers looking for a job may consider substitute teaching. This allows them to bring in some extra money and get a foot in the door in a particular school or district while also giving them the teaching experience that will help further their skills in the classroom. Sometimes teachers are even fortunate enough to happen upon a long term sub position in which they take over for a teacher that perhaps is out on maternity leave or a leave of absence. This longer term position often helps to solidify a teacher’s position in a school district and perhaps offer them a better chance of getting a full time position.
During the time in which they are in a long term sub position a teacher may decide to pursue a Masters in Education. And while traditionally this pursuit would have meant juggling a full time job and the attendance of classes on campus, today the Internet has opened up new doors in terms of allowing for a more convenient pursuit of an education.
There are plenty of reputable colleges and universities that now offer online Masters in Education degree programs where students can pursue their degree easily and conveniently. A Masters of Education program that is offered online allows teachers to complete their work and still make time for school.

In the last post we discussed the state of the business landscape and how the economy is forcing businesses to make some difficult choices in terms of downsizing to stay afloat. It behooves all of us that want to stay gainfully employed, of course – but mostly to remain respected and viable in our chosen profession – to stay on the cutting edge of our respective industries. And one of the ways in which many employees have chosen to do this is through the earning of a Masters of Business Administration, or MBA.
But the reality is, that with an already busy career and perhaps family responsibilities, we are already stretched way too thin to consider the possibility of traveling to a college campus several times a week and committing the time it would take to sit in a classroom – even if the degree in question is an important accomplishment.
But the online business degree programs that are now being offered by respected and accredited colleges and universities worldwide allows even the busiest and most harried of students to achieve their educational goals and still manage their current schedule.
An online MBA allows those students that may not be in the traditional situation as those who would normally attend college, to go through the entire educational experience and complete all of their required work without having to completely rearrange their schedule. And let’s face it, are there really any “traditional” students left? We all live a very different life in the modern world and the Internet is a huge part of how we operate on a day to day basis. It only makes sense that – just as we are able to work, communicate, play, and do business online – we should be able to turn to the Internet for something as important as an education and an online MBA.

Competition is everywhere that we look and business is no exception. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) in order to be successful in your chosen career you need have at least a modicum of competitive spirit. After all, without it you are likely to be taken out by the guy next to you that wants it more than you do and is willing to go for it in ways that perhaps you are unprepared to do. While it’s certainly acceptable – and clearly often desired – by many employees to just go to work and be comfortable, there are those employees that desire to be extraordinary in their craft and they will go to great lengths to ensure that they achieve their goals.
The Masters of Business Administration – or MBA – has always been one of the ways in which we, as employees, have been able to show our strong commitment to staying on the cutting-edge of our field. This is a degree that, no matter how you slice it, gives us the competitive edge when we go in for an interview and are up against other people who may not have such a degree. And it most definitely gives us the edge in a job market where companies are downsizing in order to stay afloat in the economy. We need to make ourselves indispensable and an MBA is one way to do just that.
But who has the time to go back to school and earn an MBA when we are already working so tirelessly to do our jobs on a daily basis? Well, thanks to the Internet, we all do! Now, with technology on our side, we are able to earn an online MBA in the comfort of our own home.
In the next post, we’ll discuss the ins and outs of online learning and the benefits of an online MBA.

There tends to be a misnomer associated with nonprofit organizations. Some people believe that because this is a group that is essentially a charity organization – focused on funding one particular cause – that it is a haphazard and somehow less serious venture than a business that earns a profit selling a product or service.
But in most cases the absolute opposite is true. It requires enormous skill to run a nonprofit organization as there is much to be done with limited funding. Those who are in management with nonprofit organizations must be creative, organized, well connected and able to tackle various forms of fundraising. Those who are interested in working in nonprofit – or are already – may determine that they need to continue their education in order to be most effective in nonprofit management.
This is easier said than done in this modern world where we are often rushing off to do one thing or another. Between our jobs and our other household responsibilities we are often caught between conflicting schedules and going back to school quickly goes on the back burner.
Luckily, however there are other options for pursuing our education as provided to us through the Internet. Today, most colleges and universities offer online programs in everything from an online business degree to a Masters in Education. No matter what our educational goals, the Internet offers another avenue in terms of pursuing what we need to be successful in our career.
Online nonprofit management allows students to go online and complete all of their course requirements without leaving their privacy and comfort of their own home. This option allows students to meet their educational goals without sacrificing their career and otherwise busy schedule. In other words, the balancing act is possible and a degree in nonprofit management is attainable through the enrollment in an online program.

In the last post I chronicled the premature end of my college experience when I was twenty years old and opted to take a job opportunity rather than get my degree. While it seemed like a good idea at the time I was now paying the price for that decision; realizing that my opportunities were more than a little stunted with no formal education to back me up and a host of college graduates now entering the workforce.
While I choose to go back to school I had little idea how that would logistically work with the balancing of my job and other responsibilities until a friend mentioned the possibility of earning an online business degree.
On this advice, I checked into programs available and realized very quickly that most colleges and universities were indeed offering some sort of online program. This was very different from when I had left school initially – a time when the Internet was really still in its fledgling form. Today, it seems as though in order to stay competitive, most reputable schools are offering online options for their programs. I found an online business degree program that appealed to me, applied for admission and very soon after found myself embarking on my education for a second time.
An online business degree has given me a great many options. The most obvious of course is the ability to complete my education without having to sacrifice my current work schedule and other responsibilities. I simply logon and complete the work when it’s most convenient for me. This is not to say that it isn’t challenging – it is; but the online business degree has given me the tools to make it happen while still retaining my job.
Through my online business degree program I have also met quite a few friends. I certainly thought that learning in this manner would be somewhat isolating; after all, it’s not like you are sitting in a classroom working on projects as a group. But I have found the opposite to be true; the online learning environment is still a learning environment and the people I have met there have been supportive, encouraging, and in pursuit of the same goals as I am – making my online business degree experience that much more enjoyable.

I dropped out of college when I was twenty. This is not something that I like to admit to many people; the fact of the matter is that I had everything going for me – my parents were paying my way through school, I was well into my major classes, and was heading for a business degree. In the end it was my own lack of patience that brought my college days to an end. I just couldn’t imagine myself sitting through class after class for the next two years. And when a job opportunity came along that assured me that I didn’t need a degree and could jump right into what I wanted to do, I went for it.
With due respect, the job itself was actually pretty good and they were right – I didn’t need my degree to start where I started. But it also meant that my opportunities going forward were limited. When we’re young we so often fail to look at the bigger picture. What may seem like a good idea may very well be a good idea NOW but what happens next? What happened next for me was that I very quickly found myself hitting the ceiling in terms of how far I could go in this job. And my salary was peaking as well. I sacrificed school for a quick payoff but the payoff was running out. My friends that had stuck with school had struggled in the beginning – as we all do – but were now finding doors and financial opportunities open to them whereas I was realizing just how limited my decision had made my future options.
I decided right then and there to return to school in whatever way that I could make it work. Obviously I had a job and there was precious little time in which I could see myself making a drive back to campus and sitting through classes. Plus I just couldn’t imagine myself in a classroom with kids that were now as much as fifteen years my junior. That’s when a friend mentioned the Internet and the possibility of earning an online business degree.
The options were opening up for me. In the next post, my journey towards an online business degree begins.

In the last post we discussed the different learning styles of different students and how one person may thrive in a smaller classroom with a more personal environment, while another would fare better in a lecture hall experience. For those who wish to pursue a business degree and want the personal “in-class” experience - but are facing obstacles in being able to commit to a traditional class schedule - an online business degree may be the perfect option.
Many colleges and universities offer online degree programs in addition to their traditional on-campus degree programs. Earning an online business degree, rather than a traditional business degree, allows a student to have the utmost in flexibility so that they may do their reading and assignments when it is most convenient for them, thereby eliminating any scheduling conflicts caused by work or household responsibilities.
Aside from these logistical benefits, an online business degree program can really cater to those looking for a more personal experience. Some of the benefits on this front include:
* The ability to access the professor. Because the online business degree program takes place virtually, students are given contact information for their instructors so that they may get in touch with them through email, message boards, and even instant message. Many online students find that they have far more access to their professors than students attending traditional classes.
* The ability to communicate with other students. The online community is one in which people typically find themselves more comfortable in speaking; there’s a certain amount of anonymity to it not present in a lecture hall. Because many online business degree programs include class message boards, students are able to work together on assignments, quiz each other, and have discussions relevant to the work material. Many online degree program students find there exists a tight knit community of students all working towards the same goal; a helpful alliance for anyone working so hard.

When we were at the age at which we were considering different colleges and universities to continue our education – or are at the age now where we are considering it for ourselves or our children – we were always taught to consider the student to teacher ratio in our equation. In fact, just the phrase “student to teacher ratio” is such a buzzword in college campus literature that it has become almost synonymous with a quality education.
Truly, however, when it comes down to it, the size of the classroom and the ratio of students to professors and the impact that they can have on the learning of one student really comes down to the personal preferences and learning style of that one student. If you are student that enjoys small class discussions and the ability to access the professor one-on-one, and feel that you learn better in a more intimate environment, then surely you will choose a school that offers smaller class sizes. If, however, you are someone who thrives in a lecture hall and doesn’t necessarily need their professor to know them by name, then a larger school may suit you just fine. It’s all about how you are most comfortable learning.
For those exploring the option of earning a business degree you may be currently having this very discussion with yourself, as you explore the possibilities open to you in terms of an education. And, for those who enjoy the smaller class approach, what you may have discovered is that there is another option in terms of earning a degree and feeling like you are getting the personal attention you need: an online business degree.
An online business degree offers the perfect solution for those students that are juggling a busy schedule and cannot commit to traditional classes, or are far away from the college or university in which they are interested. But what an online business degree also offers is the ability to have an experience similar to one-on-one learning; a definite benefit for those who wanted a smaller class experience.
In the next post, we’ll explore further how an online business degree can benefit those students looking for a more intimate learning experience.
