Online Degrees in Spite of Economy, Part II

Filed under: Online Business Degree — Online MBA Editor @ 4:57 pm

In the last post we talked about the present state of the economy and about how it has propelled many people into a state of paralysis. Businesses are closing, the job market is drying up, and people are struggling in all areas of their life. But if we are somehow able to look at this period of time as a journey to something else we can refocus our energy on taking control of our lives. And for a great many people this means the pursuit of a higher education.

The truth is that if you put aside the fears we all have about the present state of the economy now is actually a great time to push forward towards achieving our goals, educational and otherwise. Business may be slow, job prospects even slower. But why not use this as an opportunity for time – time during which you can earn your online business degree or pursue an education in nonprofit management?

The fact is that the economy will not always be in this state. There will come an upturn and markets will begin to rebound and along with it the job market will thrive once again. Business has always been competitive but when it’s a healthy thriving market people want to work with great companies in positions in which they are challenged and well compensated; and there are a bevy of jobs that are available during such a time. Won’t it feel great to be able to apply for these positions with a solid education under your belt; sometimes that degree is the only thing that will set you apart from competition with similar work experience.

Taking the time to earn a degree today such as an online MBA will only serve to further your future career prospects. Online degree programs such as the online IT degree, online business degree, and online degree in nonprofit management offer a world of opportunities for those struggling to know how to take control of their lives during a time that feels decidedly out of control.

Instead of focusing on our present state of circumstances, it may benefit many of us to look ahead at the possibilities and opportunities that could be open to us down the road. No Job Prospects? Consider a Masters in Education

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 1:55 pm

Securing a teaching position is difficult enough in some school districts across the country, even without a tanking economy. But with the state of the nation currently what it is, the prospects for job hunters in the education arena is tougher than ever. This is largely due to the fact that many older teachers that may have been considering retirement may be reconsidering for fear of what the economy may do in the coming years and how that may affect their retirement savings. Young teachers are competing for fewer spots and the competition is even fiercer in sought after districts.

As October nears, those who are going to be hired in the districts have already been hired, leaving prospective teachers setting their sights on next year and settling for substituting to get their foot in the door. But this “downtime” may also be considered an opportunity for up and coming teachers to sharpen their competitive edge even further by continuing on with their education.

Those who have been certified to teach after receiving their undergraduate degree may consider this a time during which they can earn their Masters in Education as well. After all, when the job market floods again at the end of the school year, and teachers are competing for the same position, a Masters in Education may give them a leg up on the competition.

But this does not mean that you have to pack your bags and head back to college, or even get in your car for that matter. Because with the host of online degree programs available today, earning a Masters in Education is easier than ever from the comfort of your own home.

This means that aspiring teachers can stay home, earn their Masters in Education through their online work, and still be available to substitute when the call comes; giving them the best of all worlds in their pursuit of a long term position.

An Online IT Degree Lets You Take Your Experience Further

Filed under: Online IT Degree — Online MBA Editor @ 5:07 pm

If you are like many people in this country, you have found yourself in a career that resulted from many twists and turns in the road that you have traveled. This is especially true for those who find themselves in a career in computers; because as computer technology has grown and changed, people that work within the industry have simply done what they need to do in order to keep up – something that may or may not have included a formal education in such technology.

This does not mean, however, that it’s ever too late to go through the process of earning your degree in computer technology. After all, a degree can help take the experience you have earned on the job even further so that additional career options are available to you down the road, or a particular job that you have had your eye one can be yours. A degree can give you a leg up against the competition, bring something above and beyond to the table for employers, thus giving you job stability, and make you a more marketable commodity in a job hunt.

But while all of this may be true, it doesn’t make the process of earning a degree any easier. We all have jobs to attend to, families to care for, and responsibilities that make earning a traditional degree easier said than done. So for those in this position, the online IT degree makes getting an education possible again. The online IT degree program can be found through many highly reputable colleges and universities around the country and provide students the opportunity to logon and complete the assignments, reading, and examinations included on their syllabus.

With an online IT degree, students can further their career goals and achieve personal accomplishments without disrupting their life.

Getting an Online MBA Together

Filed under: Online MBA — Online MBA Editor @ 4:57 pm

My husband and I met in college; on the first day of classes, actually. I can still remember seeing him for the first time in our English Literature class; from that day on we were inseparable. We graduated together and were even planning on attending graduate school together when we found out that we were expecting our first child. Plans changed quickly after that and we both went right to work. Before long, both with flourishing careers, we had moved several times, and had found ourselves in several great positions with terrific companies.

Today, we are settled in a great town where we want to stay and things seem to have calmed down a bit. One day we started to have a conversation about our early plans – about going to get our MBAs together – and how that seemed like so far away. I didn’t see why we couldn’t just get right back on track; better late than never, right? And so I started to do some research regarding online degrees. I knew that there was the option to earn an online degree in many different fields but I didn’t know if they had graduate programs as well.

It turns out that many reputable colleges and universities do, in fact, have online MBA programs where we can go to school online and never have to travel to a campus. An online MBA would allow us to go to work, still care for our children and have our family time, and do our studies together at night or on the weekends.

We’ve recently started an online MBA program and it’s been great. It’s just like old times being in the same “class” together, studying together, and doing our work. Best of all, we can support each other to reach a common dream that we’ve had for some time.

My Time: Getting an Online Business Degree

Filed under: Online Business Degree, Online MBA — Online MBA Editor @ 1:54 pm

I had my daughter when I was eighteen. It was young to be sure; I was just out of high school and any plans I had for college were pretty much out the window at that point. I simply couldn’t afford to work, go to school, and raise a newborn all on my own. My parents were helping me as much as possible but it all seemed so overwhelming that I just thought it was best to put college on hold and revisit it later on in life.

Well here it is – later on in life! My daughter just turned eighteen herself and next year at this time she will be off to college where she will study nursing. I suddenly find myself in the position of being able to concentrate on what it is that I want to do and I am struck by the number of options that I have. I am mostly amazed by how different the whole education process is; today I can just as easily earn an online business degree as I can go to an actual college campus and take classes. Which is exactly what I am going to do!

I am already working for a great company and would never want to give up my position with them. But earning my degree has always been something that I have wanted to do and now seems as good a time as any. Plus, I know that with that online business degree in hand I will have several more opportunities to move up in the ranks of my company and even earn more money.

The online business degree just makes the most sense considering that I am already working a full time job and would have difficulty arranging an appropriate schedule for traditional classes. But with an online business degree I can just logon to the computer at night or on the weekends and do all my assignments. And when this is over, who knows? Maybe I’ll consider that online MBA!

Your Company Paying for an Online MBA

Filed under: Online MBA — Online MBA Editor @ 3:26 pm

We all look for ways to advance our careers and achieve our personal best. Without goals for which to strive, we may find ourselves quickly in a rut where our salaries, our career objectives, and our personal accomplishments are stagnant. As humans we seek to grow in all areas of our life – looking for those opportunities that will help us to better ourselves and make the most of our talent and abilities.

Surely it has been the goal of many people – even those who have long been in their career of choice – to go back to school and pursue a higher degree. This is not a pursuit that is relegated to just young people right out of high school; education is an opportunity that is available to any of us, no matter what our age or circumstance.

But the fact of the matter is that many people who may be considering the pursuit of a degree later on in life may feel hindered by their personal circumstances. With full time careers, family, and financial responsibilities on their plate, going back to school may not seem like such a high priority. But with the online degree programs becoming more and more popular in colleges and universities the world over, the options have expanded for non-traditional students.

For instance, those who want to pursue their MBA for their own personal accomplishment, as well as to further their career, can easily do so online through reputable school programs. And, if the convenience of an online MBA wasn’t enough, there is the possibility that an employer may pay entirely or subsidize payments for an online MBA.

Employers have historically offered tuition reimbursement as a benefit for employees who meet certain criteria and the online MBA is no exception. Those who wish to pursue their education with an online MBA program should check into their company’s benefits and see if at least a portion of that tuition may be reimbursed.

Get a Leg Up in Nonprofit Management with an Online Degree

Filed under: Nonprofit Management, Online Degree — Online MBA Editor @ 11:51 am

Working in nonprofit presents many challenges, of course, not the least of which is the limited budget with which you have to work, and the fundraising that is generally inherent in such a position. Those that work in nonprofit management have to have very special skill sets in order for them to be successful in their position, including the ability to work in an organized fashion and wear many different types of hats.

For those working in the field of nonprofit management, it pays to be on top of your game in all facets of the business. Surely much of this comes from continuing to work and try new and different things, networking with others in the field, and accruing real life experience in terms of the day to day of the job. But another way that those in nonprofit management can gather more experience and knowledge of the industry is through continued education.

Those who wind up in nonprofit management may have gotten there circuitously and without a preliminary degree; after all, many of us just sort of start out in one particular industry and work our way up the ranks. Or others may have graduated with a degree that was completely unrelated to nonprofit management but found their way to a job that they love anyway.

In either case, those in such a position may decide that continuing their education is the best way to make the most of their career path. And luckily, thanks to the Internet, access to a degree in nonprofit management, as well as a host of other degree programs, is easier than ever.

Online degree programs in nonprofit management offer the student who is already engaged in their career the opportunity to learn at their own convenience and pursue their degree in a way that makes the most sense for their circumstances.

Online MBA for Those Who Work from Home

Filed under: Online IT Degree, Online MBA — Online MBA Editor @ 12:47 pm

With the Internet taking such a significant role in our life, it’s no wonder that basically everything we do on a daily basis revolves around the computer. It used to be that the computer represented another way for us to communicate, shop, and even find entertainment, but now it offers even much more than that. With the advancements in technology that have been made, combined with companies’ desire to cut down on their overhead, many people have been able to utilize the Internet to work from home.

This has certainly opened up a whole new world for people who don’t want to have to make a commute and are in need of some flexibility in their work day; as well as it behooves companies that want to work as efficiently as possible.

This work from home scenario also opens up a world of possibilities for those who want to pursue their education but are working within particular time constraints. Just as the world of business has expanded in light of the growing popularity of the Internet, so too has the world of education. Colleges and universities that want to stay competitive, and offer as many opportunities as possible to their students, know that they must include online learning in their offerings. And they do; providing such degree programs as an online MBA, online IT degree, and even Masters in Education.

For example, those who are currently working from home and want to parlay their Internet accessibility into a degree, can easily earn an online MBA or other degree by logging off of work at night or on the weekends and getting down to schoolwork. Online degree programs such as the online MBA and online IT degree allow students to complete all their requirements without ever having to leave their home. This, of course, offers a world of possibilities for those who want to continue their education without juggling a traditional college schedule.

An Online Masters in Education Just Out of Undergrad

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 2:08 pm

Those who follow the traditional path of going straight to college from high school will often have the ability to sail through their four years of school and complete their undergraduate degree program. But going on to receive a Master’s Degree may pose more of a challenge. For one, there is the financial obligation of another two years – at least – of tuition payments (and for those generous parents with the means to pay for their child’s undergraduate degree, the pursuit of a Master’s Degree is their line in the sand). Additionally, there is the conflict often imposed by work and family matters. It may be that the student has been offered a job in their prospective field and while they don’t want to turn down the opportunity they are unsure how they would pursue both a career and school. And there are those who may have gotten married or had a child and worry about balancing responsibilities with school.

For these reasons, and many more, many modern students decide to pursue an online degree. For me it was an online Masters in Education. I went through a four year undergraduate program to receive my teaching degree and was truly lucky enough to be offered a position in the school where I did my student teaching (the timing was perfect, as one of the older teachers was retiring that year). Knowing how difficult it was to get a position in this particular school district – one of the most heavily sought after districts by up and coming teachers – there was no way I was going to delay work. But I was still very much committed to pursuing my Masters in Education.

Luckily, I was able to do both because of the opportunity to earn my degree online. The online Masters in Education gave me the opportunity to teach during the day and complete my schoolwork at night and on the weekends. It wasn’t easy by any means; but it was an option that I know wouldn’t have been available to me even a few years ago and I was grateful for it.
