There is nothing worse than having regrets; especially when it comes to something that you think you can’t make right. That’s how I felt about my education. I had always wanted to get my graduate degree and had always felt that it would have done wonders for my career. But there was never enough time in the day to consider going back to school and before long I was well onto other things but still nursing some serious regret at having not taken my education to the next level.

Not one to want to live with regrets of any kind, however, I quickly turned my attention to the possibilities that existed for me to return to school but on my terms. In this respect it meant that I would need flexibility in my school schedule. After all, I was still working full time and I was, like most people, working far more than a forty hour work week. I had a lot on my plate and very little desire to complicate my life even further even if it meant fulfilling a dream.

That’s when I really delved into the possibility of an online university degree program. This was a way that I could go after what I had long regretted not getting sooner and without having to over complicate my already busy schedule. The online MBA program – which was what I was considering specifically – could be done completely over the Internet. It would obviously still take some scheduling on my part; I would have to carve out time during my week that would be devoted exclusively to school but if I could manage this schedule then I could finally think about my education without regret. Online university degree programs can put people back on track no matter how far off course they may think they are at present.

In the last post I talked about my experience working from home and how it has given me the flexibility that I have so needed with my children. While there are challenges to be sure, I have appreciated the ability it has given me to be here when my children are sick or during holidays and breaks. And so I juggle the craziness at home for the all of the benefits that it affords me and I am thankful for the opportunities that working for a virtual company has given me.

One of the things that it has most definitely given me is a rich understanding of the Internet which is what put me on the path to attending university online. I had been thinking about returning to school for my MBA but I had just gotten settled into a schedule at home whereby I could work when my kids were at school and I didn’t have to come out of pocket for any child care expenses. I couldn’t fathom doing all of this to make my career work only to try to juggle a crazy commute for school. I did my research and found a variety of online MBA programs that would give me the flexibility to continue to work from home and still earn my degree. It was only a matter of finding the right program for me and I was on my way.

Luckily it didn’t take long for me to determine what was going to work with my schedule. There were a variety of online university degree programs that were in keeping with my educational goals and I had only to find one and apply which I did in a matter of days. It may have once seemed strange to attend school from home but these days it’s perfectly acceptable and becoming more standard every day. I’m happy to have the opportunity.

Who would have ever imagined when I was in my twenties and graduating from college that I would someday return to school – in my living room? I can’t believe the many advances we have made since the inception of the Internet and it would have been difficult to imagine all of the things that would materialize and become possible in light of the Internet’s existence. Being online has changed the way most of us operate day to day and I’m no exception. I am one of those people who actually work at home because of my relationship with the Internet. I was a business major who worked in a traditional corporate setting until I had my children. Then, finding it difficult to balance my family and my job, I began to look at job opportunities that were available online. I was lucky and found a virtual company that was looking for someone with my background. Working from home has allowed me the flexibility to be with my children and it has opened many doors to me in terms of what I know to be available online – including online university degree programs.

I had always wanted to go back to school but to be honest I could never imagine how I would make something like that work. I worked from home because the commute and the child care of working outside of the home didn’t make sense for our family and these issues still existed in terms of me going back to school. Because, however, I make my living online I was able to see firsthand the many opportunities that were available to me for going back to school. Attending university online would allow me to continue to be at home with my kids without having to change around our schedule and I could pursue the online MBA program, giving me the degree that I had wanted for some time.

Going to college was not a given in my family. With so many brothers and sisters I knew that my parents didn’t have the money to send us all and those of us who did go would have to go with the support of many loans. My parents always encouraged us to go to college, however, and they did whatever they could to help us achieve that goal. I was one of the lucky ones and I was able to get my undergraduate degree but I was not able to continue on at that time to get my MBA -something that I very much wanted to do. Unfortunately there was just not enough funding for me to continue my journey and the time had come to go to work.

I never gave up the dream of getting my MBA, however, and luckily the world has really changed regarding education. In fact, since I graduated with my undergraduate degree a whole new world has opened up with endless possibilities – thanks to online degree programs.

Now that I’m finally set on going back for my MBA I am open to whatever I have to do to make it work. I did not, however, realize that getting my degree would be so much more convenient than I had anticipated, thanks to the potential of getting my online MBA.

Through an online MBA program I am able to work on my education without having to juggle all of the many components that I anticipated. Most college classes are not set up to accommodate the non-traditional student who is working full time during the day and needs the flexibility of night and weekend classes. By attending an online university degree program, however, you have all the flexibility that you want. I can do what I need to do when it’s convenient for me. Like I said, it’s a whole new world.
