Taking Time for Myself This Winter Break

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 5:56 am

I am a teacher and as such I am afforded the same vacation time as my students in most cases. Which means that when my kids are off in the summer, so am I; and when they are off for the winter break I am as well. For teachers, this time typically allows them to attend to their own responsibilities in their home. And for many the summer break means another job that they take to make ends meet during this time off from the classroom. For me, my vacations have always been just that – time to take off and enjoy the company of my family and friends. But this winter break I am actually considering doing something a little out of the ordinary; starting my work towards my Masters in Education.

I have to say that I have always wanted to do down this road toward my Masters degree but every time that I got close to making a commitment in years’ past something would always stop me. The schedule was so tight – between my work hours and the hours I would need to commit to driving down to school and spending the time in class (not to mention the hours I would need at home to study and complete my work) that there was not one inch left for error. So while I really did want to get moving towards my Masters in Education, I knew that I would very quickly be derailed.

This was before I learned about how much online degree programs have grown over the years. What used to be a viable, but not attractive, option has blossomed into a full blown opportunity for students to earn their degrees through highly reputable schools. Everything from an online IT degree to an online MBA can be completed through the Internet and I, for one, am finally taking advantage of this opportunity. I will be starting my online Masters in Education program in just a few short weeks; finally, I’m on my way!

Working on My Masters in Education

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 10:07 am

Last May I graduated from college with my undergraduate degree in Elementary Education. Like the rest of my graduating class from my major, I set out immediately to find an open position within the school districts in which I was interested. I had particularly enjoyed the district where I had completed my student teaching but already knew there were no openings for the present school year. So armed with their recommendations I pursued other districts where I knew I could possibly be a good fit.

And, like many new teachers in my position, I quickly found September and the new school year starting without me as I had to yet to find a position for which I would be most appropriate. I admit that I was very discouraged and didn’t know quite what to do with myself. I was working a part-time job that allowed time for my full-time job search but beyond that I was essentially sitting around waiting for my career to begin.

That’s when I discovered the opportunity to continue my education by pursuing a Masters in Education online! I had considered continuing on for my Master’s degree but was more concerned with getting a job more than anything else. Now that I was waiting for my opportunity to arrive, I figured that I could use the time to pursue my Masters in Education and do so in a way that gave me the most flexibility.

After all, there was still my part time job to consider; as well as the fact that I had signed up to be a substitute teacher and had already received a number of calls. The online Masters in Education program allows me to do my work from my home computer at times that are most convenient for me so that I don’t have to miss out on anything and can still feel like I’m making progress in my career.

Focus Study with Masters in Education

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 2:53 pm

It’s no secret that teachers have a difficult job in many respects; they are challenged with shaping the minds of our young people and sometimes doing so under less than ideal circumstances. But most teachers are also generally impassioned by their work; they love what they do and pursue it because they have something to share. Teachers can enter the workforce with an undergraduate degree and certification to teach the grades of their choosing. But at some point they may decide to focus their specialty so that are qualified to teach particular subject matter and they may choose to pursue this focus through the pursuit of a Masters in Education.

A career in education is often something that evolves for teachers. They may feel compelled to teach a particular grade early in their career but then desire to move to another grade as their career evolves, or enter a career in administration. Those who pursue a Masters in Education are often able to pursue a more specific career – including a specialty in a particular subject matter.

The benefit of pursuing a Masters in Education these days is that students are able to pursue their study through online programs. An online Masters in Education allows teachers to stay in the classroom and continue their career during the day while completing their coursework towards their Masters Degree during off hours. What this means to busy professionals is that their available time – which would not be nearly adequate to pursue a traditional degree – can be filled with computer study towards earning their Masters in Education.

Those who are working full time or balancing a busy family know how difficult it is to throw something else into the mix. With an online Masters in Education, however, there is the opportunity for a much better balance so that goals can be achieved.

Online Degree Spotlight: Masters in Education

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 5:54 pm

There is nothing more honorable than a career in teaching; schools are where our young people are educated and their future experiences are shaped. Teachers that enjoy their work and are passionate about what they do and what they bring to the table are remembered by children for many, many years to come; something that cannot be said by those in other careers.

Most often those who choose to pursue a career in teaching earn their undergraduate degree in education and get their certification to teach in the grades in which they are interested. But there is education to be had over and above this and many teachers choose to take this step in earning a Masters in Education.

A Masters in Education program generally offers major work in a variety of school related functions including counseling, administrative work, and curriculum. Those teachers who pursue a Masters in Education with a major in counseling may choose to extend their career into school guidance counseling; those who pursue a Masters in Education with a focus on administration may be desire to become a principle or other administrator within a school district; and those who major in curriculum work may be preparing to teach higher level education at some point in their career or enriching their education in a particular subject so that they can focus on that through their teaching career.

A Masters in Education offers teachers a chance to sharpen their skills, explore particular subjects in-depth, prepare themselves for the job market, rise up in the ranks within a school district, or even earn more money. A Masters in Education can provide insight, a leg up against the competition, opportunities for career growth in a particular district or in an institute of higher learning, and personal accomplishment for those who love the field of teaching.

Online Degrees in Spite of Economy, Part I

Filed under: Masters in Education, Online IT Degree — Online MBA Editor @ 1:58 pm

Turn on the television, open a newspaper, or logon to the Internet and you are bound to be scared senseless by the state of the economy as reported in bold headlines and impactful video. The reality is that most of us are living this economic strife in our day to day lives and we don’t need any headlines to know that it’s a tough road. There are a great many of us who fear that we won’t be able to make ends meet at the end of the month, or that we won’t have our jobs come this time next week; but we make the choices that are best for our families and hope for the best.

Instead of focusing on our present state of circumstances, it may benefit many of us to look ahead at the possibilities and opportunities that could be open to us down the road. And for a great many people that is showcased through an education. After all, education is often the pathway to the future – a door through which opportunities can be seized including a new career, an increase in pay, a promotion within the ranks of a company, and personal accomplishment.

But, today, we are even more fortunate than ever in that our opportunities for continuing our education in that we don’t even have to leave our homes in order to accomplish our educational goals.

It used to be that many people brushed online learning aside as something that was a last resort and not a very good one at that. But today, online degree programs are a viable and accepted part of the learning environment and degrees can be earned in everything from an online IT degree to a Masters in Education.

No Job Prospects? Consider a Masters in Education

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 1:55 pm

Securing a teaching position is difficult enough in some school districts across the country, even without a tanking economy. But with the state of the nation currently what it is, the prospects for job hunters in the education arena is tougher than ever. This is largely due to the fact that many older teachers that may have been considering retirement may be reconsidering for fear of what the economy may do in the coming years and how that may affect their retirement savings. Young teachers are competing for fewer spots and the competition is even fiercer in sought after districts.

As October nears, those who are going to be hired in the districts have already been hired, leaving prospective teachers setting their sights on next year and settling for substituting to get their foot in the door. But this “downtime” may also be considered an opportunity for up and coming teachers to sharpen their competitive edge even further by continuing on with their education.

Those who have been certified to teach after receiving their undergraduate degree may consider this a time during which they can earn their Masters in Education as well. After all, when the job market floods again at the end of the school year, and teachers are competing for the same position, a Masters in Education may give them a leg up on the competition.

But this does not mean that you have to pack your bags and head back to college, or even get in your car for that matter. Because with the host of online degree programs available today, earning a Masters in Education is easier than ever from the comfort of your own home.

This means that aspiring teachers can stay home, earn their Masters in Education through their online work, and still be available to substitute when the call comes; giving them the best of all worlds in their pursuit of a long term position.

An Online Masters in Education Just Out of Undergrad

Filed under: Masters in Education — Online MBA Editor @ 2:08 pm

Those who follow the traditional path of going straight to college from high school will often have the ability to sail through their four years of school and complete their undergraduate degree program. But going on to receive a Master’s Degree may pose more of a challenge. For one, there is the financial obligation of another two years – at least – of tuition payments (and for those generous parents with the means to pay for their child’s undergraduate degree, the pursuit of a Master’s Degree is their line in the sand). Additionally, there is the conflict often imposed by work and family matters. It may be that the student has been offered a job in their prospective field and while they don’t want to turn down the opportunity they are unsure how they would pursue both a career and school. And there are those who may have gotten married or had a child and worry about balancing responsibilities with school.

For these reasons, and many more, many modern students decide to pursue an online degree. For me it was an online Masters in Education. I went through a four year undergraduate program to receive my teaching degree and was truly lucky enough to be offered a position in the school where I did my student teaching (the timing was perfect, as one of the older teachers was retiring that year). Knowing how difficult it was to get a position in this particular school district – one of the most heavily sought after districts by up and coming teachers – there was no way I was going to delay work. But I was still very much committed to pursuing my Masters in Education.

Luckily, I was able to do both because of the opportunity to earn my degree online. The online Masters in Education gave me the opportunity to teach during the day and complete my schoolwork at night and on the weekends. It wasn’t easy by any means; but it was an option that I know wouldn’t have been available to me even a few years ago and I was grateful for it.

Kids Back to School; So Can You

It’s the end of summer and the groans can be heard around the country. But no matter how they complain, kids are still heading back to school if they haven’t already. What this means for parents, of course, is the reintroduction of the school year routine which can be both a blessing and a hindrance. For those of us who work full time, this return to the school year can actually benefit us quite considerably. And for those of us who work from home this return to routine allows us to settle into our own routine as well including the utilization of uninterrupted days during which to do our work.

This back to school routine may also benefit those of us who have decided to go back to school to earn our degree. While this short window of time during which the kids are in school may not be enough for us to drive to a nearby college campus and attend classes, it would most certainly allow for enough time to logon and complete an online business degree, Masters in Education, or even a degree in nonprofit management.

The online degree has become an increasingly popular method for earning a degree when we are facing some non-traditional circumstances. Rather than insisting that their students physically attend the school, many colleges and universities are embracing the role the Internet plays in our day to day life and allowing students to earn everything from an online IT degree to an online MBA without leaving their home to do so.

An online degree program is similar to a traditional program; however, the difference lies in the way the coursework is completed. With an online degree program everything is done over the Internet which means that students can do their reading, assignments, and even exams online in order to earn their degree. Why not take advantage of back to school to go back to school yourself? With an online degree anything is possible.

From Nonprofit Management to Masters in Education: Choose Your Career With Online Schooling

Filed under: Masters in Education, Nonprofit Management, Online IT Degree, Online MBA — Online MBA Editor @ 6:50 pm

Have you ever had a dream regarding the type of career that you wanted to pursue but had no idea of where to start? Or perhaps you did know the path you needed to travel in order to make those career dreams come true but life circumstances hindered your ability to follow that path. Today, there are many more options available for the non-traditional student who may want to pursue a dream but doesn’t have the schedule flexibility to return to school in the traditional way.

These options are available through the many online degree programs being offered by schools and universities around the world. Recognizing the need for a virtual presence in order to expand their student base, these colleges and universities offer varied degree programs in everything from an online IT degree to a Masters in Education.

There are some prospective students who may be wary of pursuing a degree through online methods – thinking that they will somehow receive a “lesser” education. But the reality is that today’s online degree programs are just as comprehensive as traditional degree programs; the only difference is the manner in which the degree is earned. Whether you are in the market to pursue an online IT degree, an online business degree, or a Masters in Education, the process of earning a degree in this manner allows students to complete their work online and essentially work around their already existing schedule – including full time work and family.

This is a far different world in education than it used to be; yesterday’s full blown MBA program which involved a (sometimes daily) commute to a campus and a commitment to sitting in class is today’s online MBA program which allows students in all manner of life circumstances to receive an education that could conceivably change their life.

Earning an Online Business Degree & More While Unemployed

Filed under: Masters in Education, Nonprofit Management, Online Business Degree, Online IT Degree — Online MBA Editor @ 9:48 am

It’s no secret that times are officially tough at the moment. The economy is giving all of us a run for our money and most of us are finding it difficult to keep pace with paying our bills and even filling our gas tanks. The result of this economic difficulty for households is the proverbial tightening of our belts; but the result for businesses and corporations is often the closing of doors or the downsizing of their staff, leaving those who are already struggling financially suddenly unemployed.

As counterintuitive as it may sound, now may be the perfect time for someone who is currently unemployed to return to school and pursue a higher degree. Luckily, in this day and age there is a way to pursue a college education and still be available for interviews – through an online degree program. Most colleges and universities, in fact, have begun to offer online degree programs to their students as these schools recognize the dependence that modern students have on the computer. For those who are in non-traditional situations that would make school difficult – working a full time job, raising a family, etc. – the online degree option makes school a possibility.

So for those who are currently unemployed, now may be the perfect opportunity to logon and earn that online business degree, online IT degree, online masters in education, or even online nonprofit management degree. There are countless online degree programs available to those who are willing to put the work into earning their degree but logistically do not have the time or ability to travel to a campus and sit in traditional classes.

Those who choose to pursue an online business degree or any other degree offered online have the opportunity to complete their coursework on the computer without leaving the comfort of their home and still do the work required to find a new job. Better yet, when they go on that job interview they will have the added bonus of having a higher degree which could result in a better position, better salary, or the edge necessary to get the job over the next applicant.
