It’s a new year which means it’s a time that we can all have a fresh start no matter how complicated or murky the previous year. I love the start of a new year and try to use the momentum to my advantage as much as possible – to get started on those things that I want to accomplish in the coming months. Going back to school in order to earn my college degree has long been on my mind in terms of personal goals. But I didn’t want to embark on this process until I knew for sure what it is that I wanted to study. This is finally the year that I know what I want to do and how I’m going to do it.
I’ve been working in some financial-related field most of my career; something that came by default as my first job out of high school was with a bank and the positions that I got came from me working my way up the ranks. But my heart was never in it. I was always much more drawn to working with people on a more personal level and have been drawn to nonprofit work for as long as I can remember. I did some research and found that I can actually earn a degree in nonprofit management; and better yet, I can do it online!
Through an online nonprofit management degree program I can keep my full time job with my current employer and attend my classes at night or on weekends so as not to interfere with my current schedule. Plus any of the work that I do can be submitted online including any tests or exams that I am required to take. It really is a great situation.
Following the earning of my online nonprofit management degree I may even consider going forward with earning my online MBA! The possibilities are seemingly endless!

I was never one that considered myself college material; I just had no interest in going to school beyond my senior year in high school which was, of course, a source of many arguments between myself and my parents throughout that year. They wanted me to get a degree – any degree – and I tried to explain to them that it was a waste of my time and their money for me to pursue something simply for a piece of paper (ahhh, the innocence of youth). It was an endless battle about what I was going to do come graduation when all I really wanted to do was get a job and start my life. I had already been working part time for the last year at a nonprofit organization that raised money for kids with cancer and I thought that was something I could continue to do – this time on a full time basis.
I did graduate and I did start working at my job full time but I quickly realized that if I wanted to excel in this field of work I was going to have to have a degree behind me – lo and behold, my parents were right; oh the horror!!
I knew that if I wanted to pursue a degree now was the time but I really did not want to give up my job; it was something that I loved, something I was good at, and somewhere I wanted to stay when I had finally gotten my degree. That’s when I found the online nonprofit management degree program in which I am now enrolled.
While doing an Internet search one night looking for programs to which I could apply I was stunned to learn that I could attend school online for nonprofit management. In fact, there were a host of online degree programs including an online business degree and even an online MBA program! Now that I am enrolled in school – but doing it my way – I feel like I am finally pursuing something meaningful. I know my nonprofit management degree will be a decision I will never regret!

In the last post I told of my struggle that had followed me my whole life – to stay focused, to finish things I started, to realize my goals; classic signs of what today would be referred to as ADD but were – when I was growing up – known as being flaky and ill-behaved. Having struggled through school I had somehow managed to graduate with an undergraduate degree in not one but two disciplines – business and nonprofit management. While I had worked steadily in my chosen profession for many years, recent company layoffs had propelled me to take another look at those goals I had yet to accomplish.
I had always wanted to go back to school and earn my MBA; I felt that there was much more I could do with that degree and it would open doors for me as far as exploring other career options. While my full time job was enough on my plate for many years now I was looking at some downtime during which I could attend school. But I still wanted to be as available and as flexible as possible as I was still seeking out job positions.
The online MBA program was introduced to me by a friend and within a matter of days I had gotten all the information together to apply. I am currently working towards my online MBA and making great strides in really setting out to finish something I started. I am also working with a wonderful doctor who has given me the pharmacological support I have probably needed since I was a kid. All in all, with the changes that I am making in my life I am hoping to come out of what could have been a really devastating situation with a new lease on my future and a desire to move forward.

I have always had difficulty staying on track; it is a common complaint I have heard from everyone from my elementary school teachers to my superiors at work. I am easily distracted, unable to choose from among the many goals I have established in my head, and I am constantly on the run. I guess if you could go back in time I would have been diagnosed ADD – something that the kids today are identified with through professional evaluation – but in those days you were just told to pay attention. My struggle stayed with me through all the areas of my life and I have to admit that it has taken its toll on my career, as well as my personal relationships.
I’m not sure I would have ever done anything about it if I hadn’t lost my job. Truth be told, I was not laid off because of my inability to focus; the economy forced my company to make many, many layoffs of which I was one. But this downtime – with no job opportunities in the immediate area and plenty of time on my hands – forced me to really look at my situation and where my life was going.
I knew that I really wanted to make some changes in my life and set to work accomplishing – really finishing – those things that had once been so important to me but which, for whatever reason, I had simply lost a passion for along the way. This is when I discovered the online MBA program in which I am currently enrolled.
I had actually finished my undergraduate degree –much to the surprise of everyone who knows me – graduating with a dual degree in business and nonprofit management. And I had parlayed that education into a career where I was content but had not realized my full potential (the story of my life).
While I had always meant to get my MBA I had never followed through and I knew now was the time. With my online MBA program and the desire to make change, I was on my way. To be continued….

No one goes into nonprofit expecting to make a lot of money; they go into with a desire to make a difference and do something about which they are passionate. This does not in any way mean, however, that it is any less of a viable career choice and one that requires enormous tenacity, across the board experience, and an education in a variety of disciplines. In fact, there are degree programs offered in nonprofit management that will give those who are interested in such a career the ability to focus on the many components inherent in such a job including fundraising, financial management, community outreach, governmental study, and the like.
Interestingly enough, there are a great number of people who find themselves in the career of nonprofit management because of where their lives have taken them; not because of the education they received. And yet, as they move forward in their career and choose to take on bigger roles with more recognizable organizations, they may find themselves wanting that degree to help sharpen their skills and propel them on their path within this career.
While in the past, going back to school for nonprofit management or any other degree for that matter would have required juggling a crazy schedule or taking a leave of absence from work, today, through online programs, students are able to keep many more balls in the air because of the flexibility offered by online study.
Today’s online programs for nonprofit management offer students the ability to continue with their place of employment and still make headway on their course of study. With just an Internet connection, acceptance into a reputable online program, and the desire to earn a degree, students in many facets of study can balance it all and reap the many rewards.

The workforce is such in the modern world that many employees – regardless of the companies for which they work – feel as though they are asked to don many hats throughout the week. While their job on paper may be that of “manager” they may also find themselves doing a fair amount of fundraising, sales, advertising, and even customer service. The fact is that with the speed at which modern business moves we need to be able to service our clients and customers in a highly efficient way and sometimes that requires the elimination of boundaries in the workplace and a coming together of office staff in a variety of positions.
For those in nonprofit management, however, this is essentially the snapshot of each and every day. There are few careers in which you will be called upon to do what is necessary in nonprofit management; which is why it is fitting for a person with superior organization skills, an ability to adapt and multitask, and a desire to face a fresh challenge every day.
The economy may be struggling but nonprofits still exist and those who are in nonprofit management are certainly facing a tough battle of their own in terms of fundraising and keeping operations running smoothly with limited resources. But those who enjoy community outreach, building alliances with government entities, and creating programs that are meant to do good within a community will certainly enjoy the challenge of nonprofit management.
Those who feel they would enjoy such an endeavor or would be successful in such a role can earn a degree in nonprofit management that will help them earn the job that best suits them. But in this day and age the pursuit of such a degree does not mean that it is necessary to travel to a college or commit yourself to time spent in the classroom. In fact, with online degree programs available in a variety of majors, a degree in nonprofit management can be yours in no time at all.

Working in nonprofit presents many challenges, of course, not the least of which is the limited budget with which you have to work, and the fundraising that is generally inherent in such a position. Those that work in nonprofit management have to have very special skill sets in order for them to be successful in their position, including the ability to work in an organized fashion and wear many different types of hats.
For those working in the field of nonprofit management, it pays to be on top of your game in all facets of the business. Surely much of this comes from continuing to work and try new and different things, networking with others in the field, and accruing real life experience in terms of the day to day of the job. But another way that those in nonprofit management can gather more experience and knowledge of the industry is through continued education.
Those who wind up in nonprofit management may have gotten there circuitously and without a preliminary degree; after all, many of us just sort of start out in one particular industry and work our way up the ranks. Or others may have graduated with a degree that was completely unrelated to nonprofit management but found their way to a job that they love anyway.
In either case, those in such a position may decide that continuing their education is the best way to make the most of their career path. And luckily, thanks to the Internet, access to a degree in nonprofit management, as well as a host of other degree programs, is easier than ever.
Online degree programs in nonprofit management offer the student who is already engaged in their career the opportunity to learn at their own convenience and pursue their degree in a way that makes the most sense for their circumstances.

It’s the end of summer and the groans can be heard around the country. But no matter how they complain, kids are still heading back to school if they haven’t already. What this means for parents, of course, is the reintroduction of the school year routine which can be both a blessing and a hindrance. For those of us who work full time, this return to the school year can actually benefit us quite considerably. And for those of us who work from home this return to routine allows us to settle into our own routine as well including the utilization of uninterrupted days during which to do our work.
This back to school routine may also benefit those of us who have decided to go back to school to earn our degree. While this short window of time during which the kids are in school may not be enough for us to drive to a nearby college campus and attend classes, it would most certainly allow for enough time to logon and complete an online business degree, Masters in Education, or even a degree in nonprofit management.
The online degree has become an increasingly popular method for earning a degree when we are facing some non-traditional circumstances. Rather than insisting that their students physically attend the school, many colleges and universities are embracing the role the Internet plays in our day to day life and allowing students to earn everything from an online IT degree to an online MBA without leaving their home to do so.
An online degree program is similar to a traditional program; however, the difference lies in the way the coursework is completed. With an online degree program everything is done over the Internet which means that students can do their reading, assignments, and even exams online in order to earn their degree. Why not take advantage of back to school to go back to school yourself? With an online degree anything is possible.

Have you ever had a dream regarding the type of career that you wanted to pursue but had no idea of where to start? Or perhaps you did know the path you needed to travel in order to make those career dreams come true but life circumstances hindered your ability to follow that path. Today, there are many more options available for the non-traditional student who may want to pursue a dream but doesn’t have the schedule flexibility to return to school in the traditional way.
These options are available through the many online degree programs being offered by schools and universities around the world. Recognizing the need for a virtual presence in order to expand their student base, these colleges and universities offer varied degree programs in everything from an online IT degree to a Masters in Education.
There are some prospective students who may be wary of pursuing a degree through online methods – thinking that they will somehow receive a “lesser” education. But the reality is that today’s online degree programs are just as comprehensive as traditional degree programs; the only difference is the manner in which the degree is earned. Whether you are in the market to pursue an online IT degree, an online business degree, or a Masters in Education, the process of earning a degree in this manner allows students to complete their work online and essentially work around their already existing schedule – including full time work and family.
This is a far different world in education than it used to be; yesterday’s full blown MBA program which involved a (sometimes daily) commute to a campus and a commitment to sitting in class is today’s online MBA program which allows students in all manner of life circumstances to receive an education that could conceivably change their life.

It’s no secret that times are officially tough at the moment. The economy is giving all of us a run for our money and most of us are finding it difficult to keep pace with paying our bills and even filling our gas tanks. The result of this economic difficulty for households is the proverbial tightening of our belts; but the result for businesses and corporations is often the closing of doors or the downsizing of their staff, leaving those who are already struggling financially suddenly unemployed.
As counterintuitive as it may sound, now may be the perfect time for someone who is currently unemployed to return to school and pursue a higher degree. Luckily, in this day and age there is a way to pursue a college education and still be available for interviews – through an online degree program. Most colleges and universities, in fact, have begun to offer online degree programs to their students as these schools recognize the dependence that modern students have on the computer. For those who are in non-traditional situations that would make school difficult – working a full time job, raising a family, etc. – the online degree option makes school a possibility.
So for those who are currently unemployed, now may be the perfect opportunity to logon and earn that online business degree, online IT degree, online masters in education, or even online nonprofit management degree. There are countless online degree programs available to those who are willing to put the work into earning their degree but logistically do not have the time or ability to travel to a campus and sit in traditional classes.
Those who choose to pursue an online business degree or any other degree offered online have the opportunity to complete their coursework on the computer without leaving the comfort of their home and still do the work required to find a new job. Better yet, when they go on that job interview they will have the added bonus of having a higher degree which could result in a better position, better salary, or the edge necessary to get the job over the next applicant.
