Most of us have looked for ways to stay viable in this current economic climate; learning to bring things to the table that become so integrated into our work environment that we are able to maintain solid footing regardless of what is happening around us. For those of us in not so stable jobs, however, we may be wondering what we can do to protect ourselves if we suddenly find ourselves out of work and unable to compete in a shrinking job market. It may be time to explore the possibility of earning a degree in something that will continue to thrive even in tough economic times; and for many of us this means a degree in IT (Information Technology).
A degree in IT is always useful in a variety of economic conditions. Computers will continue to exist and we need the people with the expertise to help us manage these systems. But how does someone who already has so much on their plate manage the process of going back to school for another degree? Luckily, with the availability of the online IT degree, the process of going back to school becomes that much easier for students with more than their share of struggles associated with the traditional student.
An online IT degree can be earned solely through a student’s work on the computer; there they will attend classes that are monitored by an instructor who will disseminate information and assign class work. The real beauty of the online IT degree is the fact that a student’s existing schedule does not have to be completely overhauled in order for them to earn their degree. An online IT degree program - in addition to the many other programs offered through online learning including the online business degree, Masters in Education, and more – can offer the flexibility that today’s students need to succeed and protect their futures.

In the last post I relayed my story about having passed up the opportunity to earn a graduate degree after earning my undergraduate degree. But now that I have reached a point in my career that I feel comfortable with what I am doing – and have some experience under my belt – I have been considering heading back to school.
In the past, this thought would have not gone any further than that – just a thought. I would have worried that trying to pursue a higher degree while still balancing my career and my family would have been nearly impossible. But that’s before I learned of the availability of online degree programs – everything from Masters in Education and online MBA to an online IT degree and even a degree in nonprofit management.
What I found through my research was that I could absolutely return to school and get the degree that I wanted without having to sacrifice anything to do with my job or my family. The online degree programs available through the Internet today allow students to enroll in programs and essentially complete their coursework through the computer – everything from reading to exams can be completed online; and because the Web offers us access to others on a highly communicative level, we are even able to form study groups or “meet” with professors through the comfort of our own computers.
The online MBA program that I have chosen to enroll in will allow me to step up my game at work, learn many new skills, and do something for myself that I have long wanted to do. But more than anything, the online MBA program will allow me to do the work that is required of the program and not miss a beat in my job and not miss anything when it comes to taking care of my family.

I don’t know about your experience, but when I graduated college in the early 90s the Internet was just really blossoming; which meant that my college experience was spent in the library rather than in front of a computer and I actually brought a typewriter along with me my freshman year. A typewriter! Imagine the horror!
Things sure have changed. I have young cousins in college now and their academic life is completely centered on what the Internet has to offer them in terms of additional information, research capabilities, and even forums where they can bounce ideas back and forth – a sort of online study group.
I sort of feel sad that I missed out on that time in school; having the Internet at my disposal sure would have made things more convenient for me to say the least. But ironically it looks like I will have the opportunity to have the Internet at my disposal the second time around as I’ve recently looked into going back to school.
I never pursued my graduate degree after earning my undergraduate degree because I felt that I would be wasting an opportunity to grab a great job opportunity that was presented to me. But now that I have leveled off in my career I feel strongly that it’s time to raise my game with the earning of a graduate degree.
This was something that I put a lot of thought into and I worried that I wouldn’t be able to balance everything that I have going on in my life already with a new harried school schedule. That was when I discovered through a significant amount of research that there was the opportunity to earn my online MBA. In fact, through the colleges and universities that I found there was the opportunity for students – in the same situation as me – to earn everything from an online business degree to an online IT degree.
More on my decision to go back to school in the upcoming post…

With the Internet taking such a significant role in our life, it’s no wonder that basically everything we do on a daily basis revolves around the computer. It used to be that the computer represented another way for us to communicate, shop, and even find entertainment, but now it offers even much more than that. With the advancements in technology that have been made, combined with companies’ desire to cut down on their overhead, many people have been able to utilize the Internet to work from home.
This has certainly opened up a whole new world for people who don’t want to have to make a commute and are in need of some flexibility in their work day; as well as it behooves companies that want to work as efficiently as possible.
This work from home scenario also opens up a world of possibilities for those who want to pursue their education but are working within particular time constraints. Just as the world of business has expanded in light of the growing popularity of the Internet, so too has the world of education. Colleges and universities that want to stay competitive, and offer as many opportunities as possible to their students, know that they must include online learning in their offerings. And they do; providing such degree programs as an online MBA, online IT degree, and even Masters in Education.
For example, those who are currently working from home and want to parlay their Internet accessibility into a degree, can easily earn an online MBA or other degree by logging off of work at night or on the weekends and getting down to schoolwork. Online degree programs such as the online MBA and online IT degree allow students to complete all their requirements without ever having to leave their home. This, of course, offers a world of possibilities for those who want to continue their education without juggling a traditional college schedule.

With the computer such a central player in most of our lives at the moment, we have developed our own relationship with its offerings. For some of us this means that we able to accomplish tasks from home that would take considerably more time if we would have to leave the house and run from store to store; for others it means that we are able to work in a new way – trading a commute and a 9-5 job for a virtual career in which we can better balance work and family.
What many people have also found is that they can also pursue an education through their computer – working towards a degree they may otherwise not have the time or wherewithal to pursue. Through online degree programs, however, those interested in earning a particular degree can work online to complete the work for their classes, even taking their examinations through the computer.
For those who already have a love for the computer and are now using it to further their education, they may explore the option of parlaying that love into a career – working towards an online IT degree.
With an online IT degree, students are able to take what they already know and love and turn it into something that will allow them to accomplish their career goals as well. An online IT degree requires acceptance into a program just like any other program; but the difference between this kind of program and a degree earned in a traditional way is the manner by which the work is accomplished. Students in an online IT degree program complete all their work online – where they do readings, submit assignments, and even ask questions and talk with fellow classmates.
The online IT degree – like the other online degree programs like it – is the new frontier of the college education, opening new doors for those who want to pursue their dreams.

It’s the end of summer and the groans can be heard around the country. But no matter how they complain, kids are still heading back to school if they haven’t already. What this means for parents, of course, is the reintroduction of the school year routine which can be both a blessing and a hindrance. For those of us who work full time, this return to the school year can actually benefit us quite considerably. And for those of us who work from home this return to routine allows us to settle into our own routine as well including the utilization of uninterrupted days during which to do our work.
This back to school routine may also benefit those of us who have decided to go back to school to earn our degree. While this short window of time during which the kids are in school may not be enough for us to drive to a nearby college campus and attend classes, it would most certainly allow for enough time to logon and complete an online business degree, Masters in Education, or even a degree in nonprofit management.
The online degree has become an increasingly popular method for earning a degree when we are facing some non-traditional circumstances. Rather than insisting that their students physically attend the school, many colleges and universities are embracing the role the Internet plays in our day to day life and allowing students to earn everything from an online IT degree to an online MBA without leaving their home to do so.
An online degree program is similar to a traditional program; however, the difference lies in the way the coursework is completed. With an online degree program everything is done over the Internet which means that students can do their reading, assignments, and even exams online in order to earn their degree. Why not take advantage of back to school to go back to school yourself? With an online degree anything is possible.

Have you ever had a dream regarding the type of career that you wanted to pursue but had no idea of where to start? Or perhaps you did know the path you needed to travel in order to make those career dreams come true but life circumstances hindered your ability to follow that path. Today, there are many more options available for the non-traditional student who may want to pursue a dream but doesn’t have the schedule flexibility to return to school in the traditional way.
These options are available through the many online degree programs being offered by schools and universities around the world. Recognizing the need for a virtual presence in order to expand their student base, these colleges and universities offer varied degree programs in everything from an online IT degree to a Masters in Education.
There are some prospective students who may be wary of pursuing a degree through online methods – thinking that they will somehow receive a “lesser” education. But the reality is that today’s online degree programs are just as comprehensive as traditional degree programs; the only difference is the manner in which the degree is earned. Whether you are in the market to pursue an online IT degree, an online business degree, or a Masters in Education, the process of earning a degree in this manner allows students to complete their work online and essentially work around their already existing schedule – including full time work and family.
This is a far different world in education than it used to be; yesterday’s full blown MBA program which involved a (sometimes daily) commute to a campus and a commitment to sitting in class is today’s online MBA program which allows students in all manner of life circumstances to receive an education that could conceivably change their life.
